COMMENT
Do We Love Too Much?

A love relationship can be compared to an electrical circuit, in which the attraction between the positive and negative charges creates a current of energy joining the two. The natural tendecy of this attraction is to seek the shortest possible route, carrying the highest possible current, to join the attracted charges. But should this tendency be indulged--should the "resistance" in the circuit fall--the circuit will "short". The current will escalate, ultimately causing the destruction of the circuit and the breakdown of the very connection which the current seeks to create.

FROM THE CHASSIDIC MASTERS
On the Essence of Circumstance

To understand the relationship between Moses and Aaron, we must examine the single instance in which their receptive modes of leadership--Moses' "Truth" and Aaron's "Benevolence"--came in conflict. The Torah records one occasion on which the brothers were in disagreement--a disagreement in which Moses was provoked to anger but then conceded to Aaron.

STORY
Popular Names

As they walked, they came across a group of children playing in the sand. The Baal Shem Tov went over to one of them and asked, "What is your name?"

"Baruch Moshe," the boy replied.

The Baal Shem Tov then asked another boy, and his name was also Baruch Moshe. The third one was Moshe Avraham, the fourth, Baruch Mordechai, and the fifth Baruch Moshe again. A little girl piped up, "And my name is Brachah Leah."

VOICES
Medicine and Miracles

A heart transplant saves the life of a 65-year-old woman dying of heart failure. A modern "miracle of medicine."

Was it the Providence of G-d that provided the heart just in time to save the recipient? Where was the Providence of G-d, too late to save the donor from the effects of undiagnosed hypertension? And when the recipient unexpectedly developed a fatal infection due to the use of immuno-suppressant drugs, is the medical team to blame? And if they had treated her appropriately was this "an act of G-d"--a term sometimes used by doctors when everything appropriate was done but the patient died?

ESSAY
Three Pertinent Points of the Purim Pastry

The problem began when a comparative study on food design showed that there was no point at all in eating many of the foods around. Eggs, fruit, falafel, latkes, blintzes, tzimmmes, matza balls, muffins, rugelach, hot dogs and meatballs are all round. If there is no point at all in eating, the appetites of four point two billion people on earth would be affected, possibly leading to mass starvation.

POSTCARD FROM TUCUMAN

The Tucuman province is located in the Northwestern region of the Argentine Republic. It is known as "The Garden of Argentina," owing to its dense rain forests, great rivers and beautiful mountains. It is no wonder that children grow up so happy here. And Purim time was outrageously happy for the Jewish children of Tucuman this year.
